Properties

KERAL ceramic backings are made of highly refractory ceramic material.
Resistant to high heat input.
Chemically inert.
Doesn't affect chemical composition of weld metal.
Mounted on aluminium adhesive tape.
Can be shaped to cater for different type of weld to facilitate penetration and mould weld bead.
Simplifies bevelling through the elimination of root faces.
The work piece doesn't have to be turned over for full penetration.
Eliminates gouging, grinding and weld root reworking.
Use of high deposition processes on the first layer.
Can realise 55% time saving in GMAW and FCAW.

Applications :

Ceramic welding backups are used mainly for GMAW and FCAW in both automatic and semi-automatic processes. Ideal for straight and circular welding in all positions.

How to use and keep :

Clean the surface to which the backup shall be applied of grease, oil and dust. Peel off the protective backing of the adhesive strip and apply backup to the reverse side of the weld joint, exerting pressure on the adhesive strip. Ensure that the joint is aligned in the centre of the groove. The bars can be fitted on top of each other using the adhesive strip. Once the welding has been completed, peel back the adhesive strip and remove the backup.
